POEME ROMÂNESTI ÎN LIMBI STRĂINE
Stefan Augustin DOINAS
Today We Part
Today we sing no more, we smile no more,
Facing the opening of a bewitched season,
today we’ll part, with all our lore,
like the parted waters deserted the land for a reason.
Everything seems so natural on our silenced shore.
Each of us says, “That’s the way it must be...”
The blue shadow close to our core
testifies to thought-out truths as deep as the sea.
Not before long you’ll be the sea azure,
while I’ll be the land with all its sin drops.
Large birds will seek for you beyond the skyline tenure
carrying your perfume and victuals in their crops.
People will think that we are foes.
Between us the world will stand still
like hundred-year-old forest frescoes,
teeming with striped-fur beasts and their shrill.
Nobody will know we are as close as before
while my soul, in the evening, like the shore arising
from waters, moulds itself at the fore
into the forgotten shape of your body’s weaving...
Today we kiss no more, we desire no more.
Facing the opening of a bewitched season,
today we’ll part, with all our lore,
like the parted waters deserted the land for a reason.
Not before long you’ll be the reflected sky,
I’ll be the black sun – the earth.
Not before long the wind will blow and scry.
Not before long the wind will blow through the hearth...
