POEME ROMÂNESTI ÎN LIMBI STRĂINE

Grigore VIERU

Why Should You Feel Sorrow?

You’ve always been so close to me,
Overshadowed by no other.
The sky’s fortune is the moon gleam,
Sweetheart, you’re my fortune’s mother.
I’ve known you since you were a hyacinth
Growing under the sky in early spring.
You were beauteous in your maiden labyrinth
You stayed fair, a young lady awaiting the ring.
Why should I be sad,
Why should you feel so sad?!
I cherish you, you cherish me.
May God bestow His grace on our offspring
To ever their life in harmony !
I behold waves of melancholy
Roaming your sorrowful look,
Sweetheart, I can see the mirror’s query

When you count of hoary hairs by the book.

My love, you are my only treasure,
Dismiss your sadness though it’s fall.
Your beauty as a maiden finds no measure,
Your beauty as a lady will stand as tall.
The first light snow turns your hair grey,
Do not conceal it under the kerchief.
Your beauty as a maiden will always stay,
Your beauty as a mother will stand as a reef.
Rejoice and forget your sorrows,
There’s divine order in the string of morrows.
Your beauteous with every age,
A gift sent by God in His great sage.
